Have you ever entertained the notion that perhaps we are all in Hell; we've just become so inured within it...?

It makes them feel more valuable -- as in identity, person, and job. The crutch that is the cult of christianity tends to lessen awareness of their ignorance and inherent epistemological  weakness(es).  But such effects do not come without cost. Cognitive dissonance pushes them to find an easy scapegoat/target that cannot fight back.  They blame a portion of the populace that struggles due to circumstantial constraint and genetic predisposition, along with blind luck and/or underserved encumbrance.  It justifies their hypocritical and contradictory beliefs/feelings that are deeply separatist, even racist.  As god's chosen, they have to look down on others so that that disgusting myth can seem more likely. What a sad joke they are.

Just in Time for Thanksgiving

Black Friday & X-Finity If the two above neologisms don't at least somewhat rouse frustration or disgust in you, perhaps it's best to know just what they are.  (And of course, just what I'm talking about.)  The two succinctly demonstrate how insidiously evil corporatism and run amok capitalism can be.  If wealth inequality is the source of suffering for the disappearing middle class in America, these terms shed light on to what the hell is wrong. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, a holy day in which mindless consumerism drives droves in to stores to worship money.  You can also save a buck or two.  But yes, the lines and camp outs that can be observed in front of large retailers can't help but instill a feeling of incredulity; people actually wait nights and hours to, ultimately, do nothing other than give their limited amounts of cash to the 1%.   But Black Friday is different this year and it must be recognized that a much gre...

The Mind

Philosophical Consciousness To describe the phenomenon of life and existence is to recognize the quintessential pertinence of consciousness.  Successful, sensible elucidations thereof escape the greatest philosophical minds to this day.  However, the meditative contemplation of such is sure to yield insights and bring about great novelty of thought; these effects characterize the entire field of that which we call Philosophy.   The Nature of Consciousness -- as Philosophy's 21st century problem -- is guaranteed to garner plenty of debate and academic study for years, even decades, to come.  So to be attempting to answer our question(s) of consciousness is to be at the forefront of contemporary philosophy.  So I believe I should urge you to ask yourself just what your mind is.  And what about awareness -- of self and of circumstance?  The How and the What can really get to you. Pondering these intellectual issues leads, inevitably, to a certai...

The Modern American Mind

Capitalism : Anti-Intellectualism & The Collective Aesthetic It was the ingenious socioeconomic philosopher -- Karl Marx -- who repeatedly posited that workforces enabling Capitalism in the State become “alienated” as an effect of job monotony and wholly unrewarding labor.  Indeed, one only need consider the popular employers these days -- and the nature of their often unscrupulous business practices -- to realize the truth of this line of Marxist thought.  As the employee becomes increasingly detached from their eight hour work day and its significance ( f. ex: societal importance and personal fulfillment), their personality and behavioral preferences suffer.  They change.   The inevitable disaffection manifests itself through negative attitudes, nihilism, changes in behavior, and the implicit acceptance of willful ignorance.  This is a degradation of personal value systems, belief systems, and -- yes -- overall quality of personhood insofar a...

HDR Imagery: What & How

Image
High Dynamic Range digital photography has only been around for a couple years.  It entails shooting multiple exposures -- 1 to 3 increasingly overexposed, and 1 to 3 increasingly underexposed.  And you take a shot at regular exposure, of course.   Photoshop merges the images in to one, with the result being great detail in the highlights (which are usually bleached and washed-out), and great detail in the shadows (which are usually just blackness).  That's why the extra shots are taken -- to capture all the details in all the areas of the frame.  It is an awesome new technology, and as one might suspect, the output is a massive file (anywhere from 60 to 100MB).  Photoshop encodes it first, then you generally pick a high quality format with which to re-save (reformat) your creation -- usually TIFF -- in order to disseminate it.

A Fucking Philosophy Major?!

Surely, at one point during my college "career," someone uttered the above with incredulity.  After I graduated and didn't feel so cool being a part of an elite academic department -- partly because I was becoming keenly aware of my dire debt any unemployment situation -- I would question myself over and over as to why I didn't do the smart thing and major in business. I mean, who the hell gets a degree in Philosophy?  Obviously... me.  But that raises a further, more bewildering question: just who the heck am I?  And more importantly, just who do I think I am?  We study identity in metaphysics and somewhat in epistemology, but the issue of one's humanity only becomes less clear and it escapes question frustratingly easy.   I'm trying to say I'm supposed to know who I am and what I'm to do with myself and how to proceed.  But I don't, even after studying the topic as a part of my impressively comprehensive curriculum.  The whole th...

Is Free Will Plausible?

Choice or Predetermination? The Nature of Exerting Human Will 1. One possesses Free Will when their choices bring about real measurable change in their surroundings, these changes were (and are) a part of their will – and their willed choice came about freely, totally without cause other than its conscious awareness.  2. It is manifest through mental ideation which becomes bodily motion that causes an external change, and shown-off in artistry and personal or societal creations.  Immaterial interaction is implicated, as is Self-Ownership. 3. Free Will – officially labeled Freely Willed Choice – is had during the deliberate and goal-oriented action of an individual whose capacities are not compromised.  Thought qualifies as an action when it is goal-directed and eventually shown to be foundational to an act. 4. Free Choice is important and relevant because it is the way our species alters its surroundings and is what drives the individual to ac...
