It makes them feel more valuable -- as in identity, person, and job.

The crutch that is the cult of christianity tends to lessen awareness of their ignorance and inherent epistemological  weakness(es).  But such effects do not come without cost.

Cognitive dissonance pushes them to find an easy scapegoat/target that cannot fight back.  They blame a portion of the populace that struggles due to circumstantial constraint and genetic predisposition, along with blind luck and/or underserved encumbrance. 

It justifies their hypocritical and contradictory beliefs/feelings that are deeply separatist, even racist.  As god's chosen, they have to look down on others so that that disgusting myth can seem more likely.

What a sad joke they are.
